Supporting Healthy Initiatives for Adults and Kids Alike

Love Beets took part in Big Brother Big Sisters' "Day of Play" sponsored by Whole Foods Market Brooklyn. We had a great time encouraging adults and kids alike to try our beets!

We were so excited when Whole Foods Brooklyn reached out to ask us if we could be one of only two food brands present at a Big Brothers Big Sisters “Day of Play” event in Prospect Park this past weekend!  They contacted us because they wanted to have fun, kid-friendly brands present…just further proof that we’re continuing to reverse the old stereotype of beets being a boring vegetable!

If you’re not already familiar with Big Brothers Big Sisters, it’s a great volunteer-supported youth mentoring organization.  They make meaningful matches in communities around the country between adult volunteers, known as “Bigs,” and children ages 6 through 18, known as “Littles.”  The goal is for the Big to encourage his or her Little to “higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships” while avoiding risky behavior and promoting educational success.

How could we not support such a great mission?!

Natasha and Lauren, our Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator, packed up their cars early Saturday morning to head into the Big Apple.  As soon as they arrived at Prospect Park they were excited to see not only that there were so many people there, but also that our Love Beets logo was featured on the finish line banner and t-shirts!  More importantly, they were so many fun activities (including the 5K race!) set up to encourage the kids to run around, play and be active all day.

When it came time for the participants to come get lunch at the Whole Foods tables, they were thrilled to see both “Bigs” and “Littles” so enthusiastic about our beets!  There were many beet lovers who were excited to see our brand there, as well as many beet newbies who they were able to convert into lovers!  Our Honey & Ginger beets were a big hit with the kids because of their tangy sweetness, while a lot of adults raved about our White Wine & Balsamic and Sweetfire flavors.

The day ended up being a great success and we were so grateful that Whole Foods invited us to be a part of it.  Natasha and Lauren thought that while it was rewarding to see people enjoying our products, it made it even better to also see kids playing and being encouraged to live active and healthy lives.

Do you know of any kids or “littles” in your own life who enjoy our beets?  Let us know!  We’d love to hear your stories!
